Veteran hip hoppers and long-time collaborators DJ Eazy and Jerome Rex are celebrating the release of their first album as a duo.
The project is part compilation (all the songs they’ve previously appeared on together are finally on one album) while the other half is made up of all new music. Jerome is the emcee laying down the raps and Eazy touches every track either through his music production or turntablism skills.
The sound is contemporary classicist hip hop in the style of groups like Little Brother and Grxwn Fxlks, with strong influences of early Cape Town hip hop groups like Black Noise and Prophets of da City.
Born from the uncertainty of the pandemic lockdown, Still Standing is a statement of defiance and a declaration of intent – we’ve survived and we’re not going anywhere.
This release party is led by DJ Eazy and Jerome Rex, and backed by a four-piece band: Michael Thompson on keys and talkbox, Bradrock on drums, Eddy Strings on guitar and Robin Thompson on bass guitar.
