Nala collective was created to showcase and support women instrumentalists in Cape Town, providing a safe space for them to thrive. While not accepting anyone who aligns or supports inappropriate attitudes toward women, they turn their focus to performing music by South African women composers, who are often underrepresented despite their remarkable talent. However, they are also open to playing works by artists like Esperanza Spalding and others.
This features a rotating lineup of vocalists because there are so many talented female singers to work with. This approach isn’t to undermine anyone’s talent but to offer more artists an opportunity to shine and be heard.
