DESCRIPTION:KwaNongoma: Linda Sikhakhane & Paras “Sibalukhulu” Dlamini \n\n\n\nKwaNongoma is a collaborative project between saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane and vocalist Paras “Sibalukhulu” Dlamini. This project seeks to open a sonic discourse on questions of song\, belonging and collective memory towards igniting societal values through song (ingoma). \n\n\n\nKwaNongoma will draw its repertoires from two recently released albums by these longtime collaborators: Ingoma Busuku (2025) and iLadi (2024). Consequently\, the bandstand on the evening will open space for reinforcing shared understandings and commemorative forms of communal practices. \n\n\n\nTenor: Linda Sikhakhane \n\n\n\nVocal: Paras “Sibalukhulu” Dlamini \n\n\n\nDouble Bass: Dalisu Ndlazi \n\n\n\nDrums: Damian Kemineth \n\n\n\nSpecial guest: \n\n\n\nCameron Ward \n\n\n\n“Through his searching\, saxophonist\, composer and Blue Note artist Linda Sikhakhane \n\n\n\nepitomises the vibrant evolution of South Africa’s jazz landscape. The Umlazi-born and \n\n\n\nKwaNongoma descendant musician establishes a conversation between the contemporary \n\n\n\nand traditional\, homegrown and global while steeping his ruminations on the personal\, \n\n\n\nsocietal\, spiritual and cultural in rich tones. Owing inspiration to greats such as John \n\n\n\nColtrane\, Bheki Mseleku\, Winston Mankunku Ngozi\, Nduduzo Makhathini\, \n\n\n\nSikhakhane’s style is informed by the interplay between the metropolitan and the folkloric. \n\n\n\nHis offerings deftly align these sonic influences with theoretical concepts drawn from both \n\n\n\nhereditary customs and academic abstraction” \n\n\n\n“Siphamandla Dlamini better known as ‘Paras Sibalukhulu \n\n\n\n‘’Dlamini’ in the music scene\, born and raised in kwamashu and ulundi finished his \n\n\n\nsecondary schooling at Masibumbane High school\, uLundi. He discovered \n\n\n\nhis musical talent whilst growing up as a church boy in uLundi\, when he \n\n\n\nlearnt how to play drums. SUMMARY:Bheki Khoza
DESCRIPTION:Bheki Khoza is the well-known left handed guitarist from Umlazi\, Durban\, South Africa. In 1991 he received a Talent Award and scholarship to study music in America. He returned in 1995 from studying at the University of Hartford\, Connecticut\, with the great Jackie McClean\, on of the few living legends. \n\n\n\nSome of the musicians he held the opportunity to play with included Kenny Barron\, Hilton Ruiz\, Kirk Ligtsey\, Cecil McBee\, Virgil Jones\, Charlces Davis and Steve Davis\, who now Anarchy\, a jam club for African music\, in particular. Gigs stemming from the African connection included backing vocalist FLoxy Bee from Nigeria and Thuli Dumakude\, a singer from South Africa\, of Mabatha Fame. \n\n\n\nPrior to studying in America\, Bheki played with the African Jazz Pioneers\, Abie Cindi\, Sipho Gumede\, Winston Mankunku Ngozi\, Rene McClean\, Victor Ntoni\, Mike Makhalemala\, George Lee\, and Berry Rachabane\, among others. He also backed South Africa’s famous songbirds\, Sibongile Khumalo\, Sophic Mgina\, Dolly Rathebe\, Abigail Kubheka\, and Themi Mtshani. During this time Bheki also had his own band Thayima\, which played jazz and African music directly addressing the social conditions of the late 1980’s for this reason the band was never recorded. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 6pm and show starts at 8pm.
