A celebration of experimentation and trying many firsts; a testament to the way that our creativity channels the ideas and voices that came before us. \n\n\n\nThis project combines Gabriel Espi’s distinct songwriting voice with the magic of 70s and 80s Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) and jazz and pop influences. Adopting the bold approach to songwriting of Brazilian greats like Caetano Veloso and Djavan\, the music uses moving grooves and melodies to move between different rhythmic and harmonic worlds. \n\n\n\nThe band for this show brings together some great musicians: Tiana Amari on bass\, Porsh the Drummer\, Benji Anstey on electric guitar\, and Gabriel Espi on vocals and acoustic guitar. DESCRIPTION:Bheki Khoza is the well-known left handed guitarist from Umlazi\, Durban\, South Africa. In 1991 he received a Talent Award and scholarship to study music in America. He returned in 1995 from studying at the University of Hartford\, Connecticut\, with the great Jackie McClean\, on of the few living legends. \n\n\n\nSome of the musicians he held the opportunity to play with included Kenny Barron\, Hilton Ruiz\, Kirk Ligtsey\, Cecil McBee\, Virgil Jones\, Charlces Davis and Steve Davis\, who now Anarchy\, a jam club for African music\, in particular. Gigs stemming from the African connection included backing vocalist FLoxy Bee from Nigeria and Thuli Dumakude\, a singer from South Africa\, of Mabatha Fame. \n\n\n\nPrior to studying in America\, Bheki played with the African Jazz Pioneers\, Abie Cindi\, Sipho Gumede\, Winston Mankunku Ngozi\, Rene McClean\, Victor Ntoni\, Mike Makhalemala\, George Lee\, and Berry Rachabane\, among others. He also backed South Africa’s famous songbirds\, Sibongile Khumalo\, Sophic Mgina\, Dolly Rathebe\, Abigail Kubheka\, and Themi Mtshani. During this time Bheki also had his own band Thayima\, which played jazz and African music directly addressing the social conditions of the late 1980’s for this reason the band was never recorded. \n\n\n\nline up: \n\n\n\nNicolas Dlakava on Drums\, Clayton Pretorius on Bass and Bheki Khoza on guitar and vocals. but the cats often be joined by finest Cape Town jazz cats. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 6pm and show starts at 8pm.

DESCRIPTION:Dear poets and poetry lovers! \n\n\n\nWe have another gorgeous evening of open-mic poetry on Tuesday the 29th of July at 7:30pm (as per usual)\, at our most beloved Selective Live! \n\n\n\nSelective Live: 189 Buitengracht Street\, Cape Town — Sometimes a difficult venue to find for first-timers\, if you get lost go to the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice entrance on New Church Street and call me on 0840501561\, and I will come assist you. \n\n\n\nCome commune with the creatives and the soulful poets as they take us on a journey through the landscape of their hearts. \n\n\n\nNote for performers: \n\n\n\nPlease note there will be no tickets available at the door for this event. All tickets will be sold via Quicket. \n\n\n\nYou are allowed to recite one long poem or two short ones. \n\n\n\nThere is a sign-up sheet upon arrival at the venue for those who wish to perform. Sign-up sheets are limited to 20 performers and fill up quickly so please arrive on time if you wish to get your name on the list.
