SUMMARY:Bheki Khoza Trio
DESCRIPTION:Bheki Khoza is the well-known left handed guitarist from Umlazi\, Durban\, South Africa. In 1991 he received a Talent Award and scholarship to study music in America. He returned in 1995 from studying at the University of Hartford\, Connecticut\, with the great Jackie McClean\, on of the few living legends. \n\n\n\nSome of the musicians he held the opportunity to play with included Kenny Barron\, Hilton Ruiz\, Kirk Ligtsey\, Cecil McBee\, Virgil Jones\, Charlces Davis and Steve Davis\, who now Anarchy\, a jam club for African music\, in particular. Gigs stemming from the African connection included backing vocalist FLoxy Bee from Nigeria and Thuli Dumakude\, a singer from South Africa\, of Mabatha Fame. \n\n\n\nPrior to studying in America\, Bheki played with the African Jazz Pioneers\, Abie Cindi\, Sipho Gumede\, Winston Mankunku Ngozi\, Rene McClean\, Victor Ntoni\, Mike Makhalemala\, George Lee\, and Berry Rachabane\, among others. He also backed South Africa’s famous songbirds\, Sibongile Khumalo\, Sophic Mgina\, Dolly Rathebe\, Abigail Kubheka\, and Themi Mtshani. During this time Bheki also had his own band Thayima\, which played jazz and African music directly addressing the social conditions of the late 1980’s for this reason the band was never recorded. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 5pm and show starts at 8pm.

SUMMARY:Bheki Khoza Jazz Jam session
DESCRIPTION:Bheki Khoza is the well-known left handed guitarist from Umlazi\, Durban\, South Africa. In 1991 he received a Talent Award and scholarship to study music in America. He returned in 1995 from studying at the University of Hartford\, Connecticut\, with the great Jackie McClean\, on of the few living legends. \n\n\n\nSome of the musicians he held the opportunity to play with included Kenny Barron\, Hilton Ruiz\, Kirk Ligtsey\, Cecil McBee\, Virgil Jones\, Charlces Davis and Steve Davis\, who now Anarchy\, a jam club for African music\, in particular. Gigs stemming from the African connection included backing vocalist FLoxy Bee from Nigeria and Thuli Dumakude\, a singer from South Africa\, of Mabatha Fame. \n\n\n\nPrior to studying in America\, Bheki played with the African Jazz Pioneers\, Abie Cindi\, Sipho Gumede\, Winston Mankunku Ngozi\, Rene McClean\, Victor Ntoni\, Mike Makhalemala\, George Lee\, and Berry Rachabane\, among others. He also backed South Africa’s famous songbirds\, Sibongile Khumalo\, Sophic Mgina\, Dolly Rathebe\, Abigail Kubheka\, and Themi Mtshani. During this time Bheki also had his own band Thayima\, which played jazz and African music directly addressing the social conditions of the late 1980’s for this reason the band was never recorded. \n\n\n\nline up: \n\n\n\nNicolas Dlakava on Drums\, Clayton Pretorius on Bass and Bheki Khoza on guitar and vocals. but the cats often be joined by finest Cape Town jazz cats. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 6pm and show starts at 8pm.

DESCRIPTION:Every Second First. \n\n\n\nA call to presence when we’re so often drawn forward or backwards in time. A celebration of experimentation and trying many firsts; a testament to the way that our creativity channels the ideas and voices that came before us. \n\n\n\nThis project combines Gabriel Espi’s distinct songwriting voice with the magic of 70s and 80s Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) and jazz and pop influences. Adopting the bold approach to songwriting of Brazilian greats like Caetano Veloso and Djavan\, the music uses moving grooves and melodies to move between different rhythmic and harmonic worlds. \n\n\n\nThe band for this show brings together some great musicians: Tiana Amari on bass\, Porsh the Drummer\, Benji Anstey on electric guitar\, and Gabriel Espi on vocals and acoustic guitar.
