DESCRIPTION:Reprise on 2nd Avenue is Mdantsane-born Qü’s label-backed solo endeavour\, his second on Just Music following the now-defunct Johnny Cradle’s self-titled debut LP in 2017. Tight at the seams\, it teems with great production from Qü alongside collaborators Solethu Madasa (“Amandla”)\, Lwanda Gogwana (“Gangsta Regime”)\, and fellow Johnny Cradle OG Lazola Ndamase (“Bad Bulletin” and “Self Sabotage”).  \n\n\n\nHis honest lyrics and sharp-eyed takes on inter-personal matters\, socio-political affairs\, and spiritual deep-dives is complemented by consummate guest features from Amarafleur (“Self Sabotage”) and N.A.N.Z (“Keep The Fire Burning”).  \n\n\n\nBorn Sakumzi Qumana in Mdantsane\, Eastern Cape\, Qü sharpened his skills in underground circuits where Hip Hop elements shaped his worldview\, one that had already caught the early bass of Roots Reggae and the bellowing voices of initiates when they’re gathered to sing songs of the mountain. He moved around the country\, going from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town to Johannesburg\, where he’s been growing as an artist and composing music while attempting to find space to attend to matters such as raising his daughter\, whom he sings about on the soul-stirring “Amandla”. \n\n\n\nHe learned patience and perseverance through practice\, and along the way built a small but critical and dedicated fanbase\, one that continues to sustain his musical endeavours today. \n\n\n\n“I now have the complete freedom and confidence to engage all my artistic expressions from an honest place\, a place that honours the gifts I have been given\,” he says. “I have had the time voicing and revoicing those words. DESCRIPTION:he has the knack to astound\, and quite often her sound defies categorization’. Zakes Mda \n\n\n\nWith seven albums under her belt she effortlessly manages to deliver iconic \n\n\n\nsongs from each musical offering. In June 2019\, Ms Hays opened for triple \n\n\n\naward winning musician and producer Ben Harper\, and in 2021 was the \n\n\n\nonly South African artist chosen to be part of the Commonwealth of \n\n\n\nLearning Virtual Celebrations\, focused in addressing increasing \n\n\n\ninequalities. Ms Hays was chosen as one of 12 artists\, to participate in the \n\n\n\nTankwa Artscape residency in the desert in March 2022. Her 7th album Silk \n\n\n\nand Gravel was sponsored by SAMPRA and her 8th and 9th \n\n\n\n\, After Dusk and Fool’s Gold will be released at the end October funded by SAMRO. She also \n\n\n\nparticipated in the Plettenberg Land Art Festival in September 2023. \n\n\n\nTurn Up the Volume and Take it Slow were the two chart topping tracks off \n\n\n\nher debut album Behind Closed Doors. A Better Man from her deeply \n\n\n\nintimate Call It Love Anima Sola sophomore release. Her Deep Hays album\, \n\n\n\ncollaboration with Rowick Deep\, delivered two unforgettable songs that \n\n\n\ncan still be heard on the dance floors\, Deeper Than the Ocean and Rhythm \n\n\n\nSublime. Dreaming Music was no different. She astounded her audience \n\n\n\nwith her own rendition of Sipho Hotstix Mabuse’s “Burn Out\, thereby \n\n\n\nmaking the song entirely her own. “Child Atone”\, featuring Riaan Smit from \n\n\n\nCrimson House Blues contained\, as Zakes Mda said\, ‘resonances of the \n\n\n\nAmerican Deep South of slavery and Uncle Tom\, of tamed field hollers and \n\n\n\nceremonial chants. Auriol’s blues vocals here will surely wake Ma Rainey \n\n\n\nfrom her grave.’ \n\n\n\nMs Hays is no mere jazz singer. She is a musical storyteller\, a sonorous shaman\, a songwriter above all else whose musical and emotive range is influenced by a plethora of sounds. And all her music rendered is done so in a voice entirely and completely her own.
